Baby at the Table : a baby foodie class for the first year
Thinking about introducing solids? Not sure when or where to start? Purées or Baby Led Weaning?
The first year is a fine time to establish healthy eating habits, nurture positive relationships with food, and start family traditions.
Are they getting enough? We will discuss current best practices and recommendations around baby nutrition (here and around the world).
How do I know they are ready? Special focus on baby’s physiology as they prepare to take in solids.
What to do if a baby chokes? You will leave this class with knowledge, tips and confidence to feed and care for your family - even to help with digestion!
Baby is eating solids and you want to connect with others, diversify recipes, or create mealtime routines?
You will receive quick recipes and ideas that pack a nutritional punch without having to make separate meals for you and your growing baby.

The facilitator, Brandie Lekovic, is an OCEA Prenatal Educator who offers personal coaching and counselling as a Doula of 20 years. You may have also met Brandie in an Infant Massage class or years ago facilitating the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. In 2016, Brandie’s family traded travel to start a small farm where they all participate in growing and raising food. Brandie’s rich and varied foodie history will provide tools that put you at ease and build excitement to bring your Baby to the Table.
People who took our online class during COVID-19 had this to say:
Given the continued need to physically distance, the size of our room rentals and the evolving state of our global pandemic, OCEA will continue to offer all classes online throughout 2022.
We dearly want to support the health of expectant families.
I’m a healthcare provider and I work with prenatal and postnatal women. I took this class, as the birthing partner, with the expectation that I can at least learn with my non-birthing partner. I ended up learning a lot myself that I didn’t know. I really appreciateD the opportunity to stimulate discussion between me and my partner so we can make informed decisions together!
We liked being able to take the class from the comfort of our own home, yet in an interactive way.
Again, the very frank and honest explanations of what to expect are extremely valuable. These are things that nobody ever tells you and are usually very difficult to talk about.
Julia was wonderful. Her voice is both lively and soothing to listen to. She’s also really hilarious. I loved the added bits of humour. She gave many opportunities to ask questions throughout the course. If she isn’t sure about something, she accesses her own resources/network and gets back to you with an answer. As COVID protocols are constantly changing within the healthcare domain (hospitals, birth centres, home births), I thought she was very knowledgeable about the current situation within each place. She was very knowledgeable about the birth process and the postpartum period for the family unit. There were many resources that we could access to facilitate some of the topics within the class that could need more attention either in the prenatal period or postpartum period (I.e infant feeding) which was great!
I enjoyed the fact that we were at home, it made my wife more comfortable to be able to use our own bathroom and have snacks on hand etc. It also allowed us to must ourselves during the discussion and make comments to each other privately when an issues or decision that we wanted to discuss came up.
Erin was absolutely fantastic! She was engaging, explained topics enthusiastically, answered all questions and overall was an excellent instructor. My husband and I are very grateful for all info we learned throughout this 2 day course.
We would highly recommend the OCEA's Bringing Home Baby class to any expecting parents. Our instructor was extremely knowledgeable and was very generous with sharing her time and vast experience. This was incredibly useful in helping us navigate the overwhelming amount of information available and left us with a great overview of the most important points of caring for a new baby as well as a long list of quality resources for more detailed information when we need it. Thank you so much Erin!
It was useful to understand the real benefit of breastfeeding compared to formula, as opposed to all the judgemental information that is out there.
We had a wonderful experience during our online class session. Misty is incredibly knowledgeable and the curriculum is easy to understand for first time parents. It helps to learn beyond medical knowledge presented in a textbook. We left the training feeling much more at ease about the birthing process and have many resources to refer back to if needed. Thank you! Crystal and Serge
Julia was really informative and full of excitement, so it was indeed a wonderful series of class
OCEA classes, like the Bringing Baby Home course, were our best investment pre-baby! We feel more confident, prepared, and better equipped to deal with the normal challenges facing every new parents. We cannot recomment OCEA classes enough - the instructors are truly amazing, endless source of knowledge and compassion. OCEA classes are huge confidence boosters, and they are also...fun (even virtually). We loved everything about the Bringing Baby Home, and our ongoing pre-natal class.
She was very informative and very kind. Thank you again for starting a chat at the end of the class about how all of us were doing and suggesting that we check in again in a week.
