We are proud to offer

It Takes a Village: A class for Grandparents and other Supporters

The last 30 years have offered families more information on Infant Mental Health, Skin to Skin and strategies to support attachment,  which has resulted in changes in our day-to-day parenting techniques.  And of course, Covid-19 has impacted our support systems immensely.  Our parenting values of unconditional love,  understanding, and parenting with intention have all remained. Still, the tools available to us have changed, and the work-life balance for 2024 families is different.  Leave with practical strategies to support your adult children and grandchildren, your extended family member, or your very best friend through the following topics and more!

We will cover newborn sleep recommendations
Car seat information
Babywearing
Infant feeding recommendations
Supporting a new family during peak virus season
How you can use technology to stay connected to your grandchild

Registration is per couple OR for one participant and their Plus-One (ie: Grandma-to-be and an Auntie ). Leave feeling excited to be able to offer support for your family that reflects all of your family’s values.

Refund Policy: When cancelling a prenatal class after it has been booked there is a $25 (CAD) administration fee. If the cancellation occurs less than 14 days before the class there is a 50% cancellation fee. If it is less than 7 days there is no refund.  Requests for date changes within 7 days of class will reflect a $75 fee.  Please remember this when booking classes and plan to finish your session by 35 weeks.

People who took our online class during COVID-19 had this to say:

Given the continued need to physically distance, the size of our room rentals and the evolving state of our global pandemic, OCEA will continue to offer all classes online throughout 2022.
We dearly want to support the health of expectant families.

Bringing Baby Home was a great class! Brandie's informative, non-judgemental teaching was perfect and set a great tone for us as first-time parents. She did a great job of creating a sense of community in the online class. Thank you!

Bringing Baby Home – with Brandie Lekovic

This was an excellent course and Erin was wonderful. She answered questions with clarity, had a wealth of knowledge and experience, gave relevant examples, and was non-judgmental and open. I already recommended this class to another expecting family because I do not know how we would have gained this knowledge without it. The science and evidence base at the center of the class was really refreshing and useful because the wealth of information online is generally confusing and contradictory. Erin cleared up so much of that confusion for us. Thank you!!

We liked when studies, research, etc. were referenced when presenting information. There is so much information out there that it's nice to know when information has been validated by research.

We highly recommend taking classes with OCEA. Instructors are beyond knowledgeable and so warm and helpful. We learned SO much and now have a wealth of resources to tap into when needed!

Erin was really wonderful and had so much information that was easy to follow and was non-judgemental with any questions you had. She did really well with teaching the class online given the current situation.

Erin was fantastic! She is extremely knowledgeable and is able to offer good recommendations without pushing her opinion on you. She was very friendly, has made herself accessible to help should we have questions or need help assessing our car seat setup, etc. We could not ask for a better educator!

Since taking the course with Lilly, I have told all of my pregnant friends about it. She made me and my partner feel very comfortable and at ease about the whole childbirth experience. She was calm, and knowledgeable making me feel much more confident and less anxious about labour and childbirth.

Pre Natal – with Lilly Bianchi

It was nice to be at home and be able to adjust our computer, seating, etc. at our leisure.

Pre Natal – with Julia Wykes

My partner and I took the Pre Natal Class with OCEA. The class was hosted on Zoom, since the COVID-19 pandemic meant we had to have a virtual class. Our teacher, Julia, really made this class top-notch. We learned about all our different birthing options in Ottawa and what to expect from each, including any adjustments resulting from the pandemic. It was comforting to learn the current standard of care we can expect in Ottawa, and how this matches the most recent scientific information about birthing. The local information is really what makes this class worthwhile compared to reading a general pre-natal book. We left the class feeling informed and empowered in our choice of care and our choice of birthing place.

Erin and Lily are both very knowledgeable, resourceful, practical and pragmatic in all of their teaching and advice. We appreciated that their courses (Labour and Delivery and Bringing Home Baby) were offered through Zoom. We are thankful for their support before we welcome our baby.

LOVED Erin, her knowledge and experience, her positive non-judgemental attitude, her stories, everything. We truly enjoyed the class and were sad when it ended!

Bringing Baby Home – with Erin Shaheen

Excellent experience, good speed, well communicated. She made everyone feel very comfortable, able to contribute and take something away. She is a knowledgeable trainer who kept the training interesting and stimulating. Loved the ice cube exercise!
