Baby at the Table: a baby foodie class for the first year

Are you thinking about introducing solids?   Not sure when or where to start?   Purées or Baby Led Weaning? We talk about it all.

The first year is the perfect time to establish healthy eating habits, nurture positive relationships with food, and start family traditions.

Are they getting enough?  We will discuss current best practices and recommendations regarding baby nutrition (here and worldwide).

How do I know they are ready?   Special focus on babies’ physiology as they prepare to eat solids.

What to do if a baby chokes?  You will leave this class with knowledge, tips and confidence to feed and care for your family - even to help with digestion!

What about introducing Allergenic Foods?  Find out the latest recommendations on this topic.

Baby is eating solids, and you want to connect with others, diversify recipes, or create mealtime routines?

You will receive quick recipes and ideas that pack a nutritional punch without making separate meals for you and your growing baby.

The facilitator, Brandie Lekovic, is an OCEA Prenatal Educator who offers personal coaching and counselling as a Doula of 20 years. You may have met Brandie in an Infant Massage class or years ago, facilitating the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. In 2016, Brandie’s family traded travel to start a small farm where they participate in growing and raising food. Brandie’s rich and varied foodie history will provide tools that put you at ease and build excitement to bring your Baby to the Table.

People who took our class had this to say:

We dearly want to support the health of expectant families.

Julia was awesome! Would have loved to do it face to face, but completely understood due to the current climate. It worked well online and was very information.

Pre Natal – with Julia Wykes

We had a great 6 week online Prenatal class with Julia! My husband and I really enjoyed the facilitation of the class and topics/information presented and discussed. It was very helpful and informative. We also really appreciated Julia's down-to-earth nature and very realistic views and presentation of the topics. Julia was very detailed but kept it light and realistic with no sugar coating, which is just what we needed! - thank you!!

I had no idea what doing the class over Zoom would be like but Brandie was excellent!

Everyone should take advantage of the courses offered by OCEA! What a great service for new, local parents.

Bringing Baby Home – with Erin Shaheen

Erin was an amazing educator. She had such an amazing personality! Her presentation was very captivating. She was confident and knew what she was talking about. I really appreciated how she shared both side or opinion (e.g. sleep training vs not sleep training) in a way that was i formation but still allowed us to make our own decision. She was also great and know previous guideline and rational for why they change. Loved the rational. She also did such a great job at making the class interactive through open ended questions, chat box. Loved how she would use our names when we would contribute in the group. Made it that much more personable. For topics like feeding which might be more personal, she did a great job at offering for people to private message her. Absolutely amazing instructor.

Highly recommend taking this course. There is so much information available out there, but to have it consolidated into a series of classes led by a fantastic educator made us feel confident in moving towards our next phase of life with our newborn. Erin is endlessly knowledgeable and patient, she is well-versed with all the most up to date research and health guidelines, and her familiarity of local resources is amazing. There is so much to learn, but this class made it feel manageable.

Really enjoyed this class. So informative! I would definitely recommend it to friends who are about to become new parents. Erin was an excellent instructor and did a great job presenting the information. Particularly amazing how quickly this class was adapted from in-class to online and how thorough and easy to follow it was. Our confidence as soon-to-be new parents has increased exponentially since taking this class. Thank you!

Our educator was fantastic. We were really impressed by her. She knew her material, but was engaging and interesting, even remotely for the first time. We felt she was careful with her word choices. She had a pleasant demeanor and was very adaptable and responsive based on our questions and based on the new format of the course without any issues. We would highly recommend this course, but we would recommend any class with her particularly. She made us believe we could bring home a baby and we would all survive!

Again, the very frank and honest explanations of what to expect are extremely valuable. These are things that nobody ever tells you and are usually very difficult to talk about.

Pre Natal – with Julia Wykes

Last weekend I was feeling super anxious about the unknowns of the birthing process, particularly in light of Covid-19. I feel so much better now after having taken this course. I feel much more educated, adequately prepared, and the fear of the unknown - while not gone, is way more in check now. Thank-you!

Erin, our instructor. She made the experience really positive and always made sure that as parents of twins we had that perspective. She is AMAZING!

Bringing Baby Home – with Erin Shaheen

Erin was absolutely phenomenal as a course facilitator and her knowledge of all subjects relating to the course was outstanding! She has a casual approach to many baby topics that would otherwise cause great (unnecessary) stress for parents-to-be. The combined experience of having her own family and working with new parents over the years adds an amazing wisdom that was so refreshing to see. It was too bad the course was online as I'm sure it would've been more engaging in person, overall I give it an A+.
