Baby Steps

Welcome to OCEA's Tuesday morning parent group!  Bring your baby, a warm drink, snack, and come to meet new friends!

This new parent group will run on Tuesday mornings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for seven weeks.  Each week we discuss a different topic around life with a newborn.  This group is geared toward families with babies from 0-6 months.  Topics will be reflective of each group's needs and may include any of the following:

  • Getting out and about with a newborn: sharing ideas of fun, easy outings with your newborn
  • Finding and creating time-saving strategies as a new parent
  • Family adjustments: setting gentle boundaries with loved ones, and managing expectations from friends and family.
  • Days with our newborns: sharing ideas and suggestions for setting a nice rhythm to our days
  • Sleep and naps:  let's share our sleep wins and challenges!
  • Open question week:  Bring your questions and let's discuss and brainstorm some ideas
  • Planning family meals: meal prep is an ongoing task, as support during the "5-7 pm shift" and so much more.
  • Baby wearing: bring your carriers, let's try them on and make adjustments

Baby Steps will be facilitated by Michelle Morra, an OCEA prenatal educator, postpartum doula, and parent to five.   Michelle's calm approach to gentle parenting and supportive care towards new parents will make this a wonderful, non-judgmental, safe group.  Michelle looks forward to welcoming you and your baby in the fall!

The cost of the class is $180 (+HST)

Refund Policy: Classes cancelled from the time of booking until 14 days before the class start incur a $25 administration fee. Classes cancelled between 7-14 days; 50% cancellation fee. Classes cancelled with less than 7 days’ notice; no refund

People who took our class had this to say:

We dearly want to support the health of expectant families.

Erin was really wonderful and had so much information that was easy to follow and was non-judgemental with any questions you had. She did really well with teaching the class online given the current situation.

My husband and I really appreciate Michelle's calm and clear teaching style. She is very patient and understanding in hearing questions and concerns.

Very informative, encouraging, and well worth the time and money. The educator was wonderful and I trusted her experience and knowledge. My partner and I feel much more confident going into our own upcoming birth and I would recommend this course to all expecting parents.

OCEA has made a huge difference - we are pregnant during the COVID 19 pandemic and these online classes really helped us feel more prepared and gave us a sense of community and support. Highly recommend all of their courses. I don’t know what I would do without them.

The workshop on bring baby home was informative: It is especially working so well with busy couples, as the instructor focuses on each topic with the detailed explanation. You have time to discuss with your partner, as well as in the class at large. The instructor is very professional, effective and friendly. We took a two-day workshop, but time went on so fast. We're very happy about this workshop.

I was encouraged by my Midwife to take this class even though I was unsure and hadn't planned on taking any prenatal classes. I am so glad that I listened to her! My CEA class really helped me to understand the birth process much clearer than I ever thought was possible. It prepared me emotionally and mentally by explained what to expect each step of the way and physically by giving practical tips and in-class practice as to relaxation methods and positions for natural pain management. I left each evening feeling encouraged and empowered. I wholeheartedly recommend this class to anybody having a baby!!!

Erin provided good information regarding on screen time with infants/children which is something that we have always been concerned about.

I would recommend this prenatal class to anyone having a baby! The mechanics of childbirth are so much more complicated than I thought, but Brandie explained everything perfectly! We laughed, and learned so much! I definitely recommend the course, it is SO worth the investment!

Although we have plenty of resources available to us, including couples that have recently had babies (some of which explore more "alternative" or new methods in raising their children and others more conservative), plenty of people that are giving us advice, books, online tutorials etc... this course was truly invaluable. The course structure made a lot of sense and the instructor (we had Erin) was so knowledgeable, answering questions based on her wealth of experience, existing research studies, historical context and so on. We can't imagine this information being conveyed in any other way other than in a class such as this. We literally could ask anything pertaining to the course topics and would get a very good answer. We will be recommending this course to everyone that is expecting. We found it especially helpful that we had not made any baby related purchases yet because one component of this course was about what products to buy, should wait to buy, not buy and WHY. Thank you!

OCEA’s 2-Day prenatal class was worth the time and cost. The information was very valuable and the small group setting made it comfortable to engage and share and learn. Helpful resources were also shared.

Pre Natal – with Michelle Morra

We were very impressed with the OCEA "Bringing Baby Home" course. It was well-paced and kept my attention, but also had enough time to ask questions and try some "hands-on" work such as straddling and baby-wearing. The instructor was fantastic and I left the class feeling much more confidant about what's to come. Perhaps most importantly, we gained the knowledge of where to go for help in the community and when to seek help.
