OCEA Spring Newsletter

March 29, 2024, 10:26 a.m.

Although official spring has sprung and days are getting longer, we are still waiting for that beautiful warm sun that brings leaf buds, garden flowers and warm walks with baby!

OCEA has some exciting spring classes to share and a new area resource for families with children 0-6 years.

Ottawa's Early ON centres have offered FREE workshops, playgroups, toy lending libraries and outdoor events to area families for 30 years in Ontario. It has been challenging to filter through the 60+ locations to find the activity on any given day or location. This is where an amazing local parent came in to create one central directory for all programming here.

Here is one event that our very own Brandie has been invited to facilitate.

Baby at the Table
A baby Foodie class

(commonly 4-7 months old)

  • Is your baby approaching 6 months of age and getting ready to eat SOLIDS?
  • Are you feeling confused by purees or baby-led weaning information?
  • Are online resources adding to your confusion?
  • Should you introduce one food at a time?
  • Allergies and foods to avoid and for how long?
  • What recommendations have changed over the last 10 years for feeding your baby and why?
We will address baby-led weaning, introducing allergenic foods, how to know if your baby is eating enough, and the difference between gagging vs choking.

Classes run for 4 weeks starting April 3, 10, 17 and 24, 2024
OR
June 4, 11, 18, 25, 2024

Infant Massage
Join us to learn the skill of infant massage.

Brandie Lekovic is offering a four-week class that includes individualized massage sessions and handouts. The classes are intended for babies who are pre-crawling.

We will provide clever hints on carrying massage into the years to come and many opportunities to connect with the other new parents in the group.

Comfort Measures

Do you need a little refresher on your options
for pain management for birth?
Hoping to use all your options of unmedicated strategies for comfort?

with Brandie on April 4th or June 3rd,
This 3-hour class delves deeper into ideas and practice of naturally occurring pain relief/coping strategies. Brandie, a Doula for 20 years, offers practical tips for the Birth Partner. This is a great compliment to a prenatal class or as a refresher for those having another baby. Register here

It Takes a Village

Our Grandparents and More Class (It Takes A Village) is back for three evenings, running on June 3, 10 and 17, 2024. If you have extended family or friends who plan to be your main support and would like to take a class designed specifically for the support person, this is the class!

We will offer practical tips on support when living in the same city or afar, and how loved ones can support the new family transition in the early first few days, weeks and months as new parents. We will review changes to guidelines for sleep, infant feeding, car seat use and more!
